the mainstream sucks.
i know, Miku is mainstream now. so are the other Cryptonloids and even Gumi, a Vocaloid from Internet Co.
but i still don't care.
i don't care if anyone or anything has gone mainstream, for they are still doujin/indie in my heart.
i don't think Miku is perfect, she's not how the mainstream sees her. because quite frankly the mainstream hates individuality, which is very obvious with Miku.
i don't like things that feel oddly sterile, yk? reminds me of hosipitals. especially government-based things where being a kid it was a nightmare since i wasn't allowed to play ANYTHING.
which feels like weird deja vu with the mainstream.
the mainstream hates individuality. simple as that. nothing more nothing less.
okay, well, i'll elaborate on that a bit.
the mainstream isn't... my favourite thing.
i've always been an indie girl, from the heart really. and it kinda shows especially with the shit i grew up with. hell even my dreams kinda fill this too.
i still think Miku's diverse, it depends on the person - the artist behind the whole thing to show her.
really, it's up to you to determine what she is.
different art styles, different kinds of songs, various genres, cute fan art, or whatever really. it doesn't have to be the same as others'!
Miku, like the rest of Vocaloid and UTAU, used to be super doujin/indie. and quite frankly Crypton Future Media only piggybacked off the doujin culture surrounding Miku and then "canonised" it all. only for a profit, which is really scummy behaviour if you ask me.
you can still change, even if it's hard. and i can tell if you've always seen her as a pop icon or something.
take it from someone who's grown up entirely with Vocaloid being her childhood, with Project SEKAI and Diva MegaMix only appearing when i started high school.
hell, i refuse to pay for things. kinda an anarchist at this point. cuz i don't want to lose the one stupid thing that technically allows me to do anything in life for something dumb.
and yet i use Linux of all things. and i've refused to pay for VOCALOID, the software that is. and i've tried getting UTAU to run through Wine.
i think it mostly stems since i love to disobey things. my 'tism makes me unable to do something if i've been told to do it, but i'll do it if it's never mentioned.
so of course when there's hype culture and people goin like "YOU MUST GET IT OR DIE" of course you know what happens.
